There was a time when I was unable to sit and meditate for even 3 minutes. Years later, I can now meditate up to an hour but when I fall out of practice, it becomes an uphill battle again. A large part of it, for me, was being unhappy with myself. When it was quiet, I couldn't ignore the depressive and anxious thoughts that usually kept me up at night. I could keep them at bay during the busy day, but at night they would sneak in and keep me up ruminating. Ten years of therapy later, I can finally enjoy peaceful solitude but it took a lot of practice to get here. I think so many people would benefit from reading this piece and to learn how to be alone and to enjoy their own company. Thank you for writing this piece. It was a refreshing reminder!
